Although the situation last year didn't work quite as well as we had anticipated (late development of the gaming PC, charity cooperation, etc.), we hope this Shocktober will launch with much success. The recap the situation for Shocktober 2010, we had decided early on to dedicate the month-long event in the memory of Kiotsu, a member of our community who passed away due to Muscular Dystrophy. We had appropriate anticipations for a charity to benefit a cure towards this disease to, unfortunately, no cooperation. We channeled through two separate (and widely known organizations) MD charities who, at the time, did not accept donations from third party events, nor accepted donations through PayPal submissions. It wasn't until the last few weeks of Shocktober (when we grew tired of waiting around for a response) where we planned two last-minute mini-thons with the immediate cooperation of Red Cross: Ghosts'n'Goblins and Resident Evil. While these donations still did well in their last-minute planning, it did not amount to all of our hard planning.

This year, I hope to find a charity that will communicate with us early on so we can get the ball rolling from the start! It would be a charity/fundraiser throughout the entire month. Ideas/situations to encourage donations can certainly be developed by the community (as a response to this post).

If you would like conduct research on a charity, it would be a TREMENDOUS help! You can either ...

- e-mail them, asking if they support PayPal donations.
- e-mail them, describing our community and our intentions of raising funds over a period of a month
- direct your research to me for handling all contact exchange.

Please list any charities/ideas for the event(s) that you see fit. Thanks for your help!
